Indian-American wealth in Virginia: Loudoun's home-equity millionaires
Loudoun County is over 11% Asian Indian. Our Virginia data finds thousands of people at $1M+ there, almost all in the $1M–5M band.
Virginia has about 174,800 residents of Asian Indian descent, up about 12% from the 2015–2019 survey [1][2]. Two Northern Virginia counties, Fairfax and Loudoun, hold more than half of them [4]. But the two are moving in opposite directions: Loudoun is growing fast while Fairfax, still the largest, was slightly down.
Our database shows the same split in wealth. Loudoun has a very large number of people in our $1M+ set, nearly all in the first band. Fairfax's executive suburbs have far fewer people but much higher bands.
- 174,842 residents of Asian Indian descent (alone or in combination) in Virginia, 2020–2024 average [1], or 2.0% of the state's population [3] and 3.5% of the US total [1].
- +11.9% versus the 2015–2019 estimate of 156,283 [1][2] (our calculation).
- 4,419 people in the HeyAlbert database placed in Virginia at an estimated $1M+, of whom 332 are in our $5M+ bands [8].
Where Virginia's Indian-American residents live, by county
The Census Bureau's American Community Survey counts 174,842 people who report Asian Indian ancestry, alone or with another group, across Virginia's 133 counties [1][4]. Fairfax County alone holds 33% of them, and the three largest counties together hold 70% [4] (our calculation).

|---|---|---|---|---|

Fairfax County has about 57,000 residents of Asian Indian descent, about 5% fewer than in the earlier survey [4][5]. Loudoun has about 48,000, up about 25%, and at 11.3% it is the most concentrated county in the state [4][5]. Prince William grew about 44% [4][5]. The census-designated places of Brambleton (about 30%), McNair (25%) and South Riding (19%) are among the most concentrated Indian-American communities in this whole series [6][7].
The most concentrated communities
Raw counts favor big cities. Ranking places of 20,000+ residents by the share who report Asian Indian ancestry gives a different map [6][7]:
| Place | Asian Indian residents | Total population | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brambleton CDP | 7,356 | 24,537 | 30.0% |
| McNair CDP | 5,612 | 22,655 | 24.8% |
| South Riding CDP | 6,508 | 34,352 | 18.9% |
| Short Pump CDP | 4,542 | 29,026 | 15.6% |
| Chantilly CDP | 2,768 | 24,036 | 11.5% |
| Ashburn CDP | 4,364 | 46,026 | 9.5% |
| Tysons CDP | 2,554 | 28,936 | 8.8% |
| Merrifield CDP | 1,702 | 20,698 | 8.2% |
Places with 20,000+ residents and at least 1,000 Asian Indian residents. CDP = census-designated place. Sources: ACS 2020–2024 5-year, Tables B02018 and B01003 [6][7]; shares are our calculation.
What the HeyAlbert database shows in Virginia
HeyAlbert builds profiles of Indian-American individuals with an estimated net worth of $1M or more from public records, and every estimate is tied to a cited source. Our database currently places 4,419 such people in Virginia [8]. That is a count of people we have found and estimated, not a census of wealthy households: our coverage is partial and uneven, as the next section explains.
| Estimated net-worth band | People in our database |
|---|---|
| $1M–5M | 4,087 |
| $5M–15M | 239 |
| $25M+ (probable) | 67 |
| $25M+ (likely) | 26 |
| Total, $1M+ | 4,419 |
Source: HeyAlbert database [8]. Bands are estimates from public evidence; “likely” and “probable” describe our confidence in the $25M+ tier. Cells under 25 are suppressed.

| City | $1M+ | of which $5M+ | of which $25M+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ashburn | 1,605 | <25 | <25 |
| Aldie | 1,131 | <25 | <25 |
| Chantilly | 530 | <25 | <25 |
| Leesburg | 291 | <25 | <25 |
| Sterling | 122 | <25 | <25 |
| Centreville | 62 | <25 | <25 |
| Mclean | 43 | 28 | <25 |
| Herndon | 38 | 35 | <25 |
| Reston | 38 | 36 | <25 |
| Vienna | 32 | 27 | <25 |
Source: HeyAlbert database [8]. Cities with 25+ people at $1M+ (10 in Virginia); cells under 25 shown as <25. The city is where our sources place the person; for some records it is a workplace or filing address rather than a home.
Ashburn (1,605) and Aldie (1,131) have the most people in our Virginia set, followed by Chantilly and Leesburg, and in each of them fewer than 25 are in our $5M+ bands [8]. McLean, Herndon, Reston and Vienna look completely different: each has fewer than 50 people at $1M+, but most of them are in our $5M+ bands [8].
Why our Virginia count looks the way it does
Each estimate in our database rests on a primary piece of public evidence. The mix of that evidence differs a lot from state to state, depending on which records we have been able to process, and it shapes the counts above more than any real difference in wealth does [8].
| Primary evidence for the estimate | People | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Home value (public assessor or listing records) | 3,790 | 86% |
| Other public signals (executive roles, company filings, gifts, pay) | 432 | 10% |
| Physician (licensed, specialty-based estimate) | 197 | 4% |
Source: HeyAlbert database [8], people at $1M+ in Virginia. Categories under 25 not shown.
Home values are the evidence for about 86% of our Virginia estimates, one of the highest shares in this series [8]. That is why the $1M–5M band dominates: Loudoun's newer, larger homes push many households past $1M in home equity alone. Executive and business wealth in McLean and Reston is documented mainly through filings and roles, a smaller part of our Virginia data so far.
Giving signals
126 of the 4,419 people in our Virginia set (2.9%) have at least one public giving signal, such as a named gift on a donor roll or a role at a charity [8]. By cause, counting each person once per cause:
| Cause area | People with a signal |
|---|---|
| Other causes | 51 |
| Education | 41 |
Source: HeyAlbert database [8]. Causes with fewer than 25 people not shown. A person can appear under more than one cause.
What it means if you work with these families
Loudoun is a volume market: thousands of professional households, often in tech and government contracting, that have recently crossed $1M on paper. Many are prime prospects for first-time financial planning, college funding and equity-compensation advice. The executive corridor of McLean, Reston and Herndon is smaller and more competitive. Both are a short drive apart and easy to cover from one office.
Methodology
Census figures are American Community Survey 5-year estimates for 2020–2024 and 2015–2019, Table B02018, using “Asian Indian, alone or in any combination,” which counts people who report Asian Indian ancestry together with another group as well as alone [1][2]. Total population comes from Table B01003 [3]. The Census Bureau changed how it codes detailed race responses in 2020, so part of the change between the two periods may reflect coding rather than migration. All estimates carry margins of error; differences of a few percent between small areas should not be over-read. Shares and growth rates are our calculations.
HeyAlbert counts are aggregates from our database as of October 2026 [8]. They include people we identified as likely of Indian origin with an estimated net worth of $1M or more, based on public records such as property assessments, professional licenses, patents, SEC filings and donor rolls. Coverage is partial: we have not found everyone, and what we have found depends on which public records exist and which we have processed in each state. These counts are not population totals and should not be read as the number of wealthy Indian-American households in Virginia. Any cell under 25 is suppressed, and we publish aggregates only, never individual records.
