Somerset County: 11.6% Asian Indian and up 29%, but thin in our data

Somerset County is 11.6% Asian Indian after 29% growth since 2015–19. Our database places 198 people there at $1M+, so our coverage is partial.

Somerset County has about 40,400 residents of Asian Indian descent, 11.6% of the county [1][3]. That is up about 29% from the 2015–2019 survey [1][2]. In Montgomery Township the share is 24% [4]–[7].

Our database is thinner here than the Census numbers suggest it should be. It places 198 people in Somerset at $1M+ [8], and the townships with the largest Census communities do not appear among our top towns.

  • 40,409 residents of Asian Indian descent (alone or in combination) in Somerset County, New Jersey, 2020–2024 average [1], or 11.6% of the population [3].
  • +29.4% versus the 2015–2019 estimate of 31,230 [1][2] (our calculation).
  • 198 people in the HeyAlbert database placed in Somerset County, New Jersey at an estimated $1M+, of whom 37 are in our $5M+ bands [8].

What the HeyAlbert database shows in Somerset County, New Jersey

HeyAlbert builds profiles of Indian-American individuals with an estimated net worth of $1M or more from public records, and every estimate is tied to a cited source. Our database currently places 198 such people in Somerset County, New Jersey [8]. That is a count of people we have found and estimated, not a census of wealthy households: our coverage is partial and uneven.

Cities in our database are matched by name to the Census places and townships in the county; a few that straddle a county line are counted whole, and large cities that extend well beyond the county are left out.

Of our 198 people, 37 are at $5M+ and fewer than 25 are in our $25M+ bands [8]. Warren has 36 people in our set, Bernards 28 and Watchung 25, each with fewer than 25 at $5M+ [8]. Franklin Township, Bridgewater and Hillsborough, the largest Census communities, are not among the towns in our city table [8].

Why our Somerset County, New Jersey count looks the way it does

Each estimate in our database rests on a primary piece of public evidence. The mix differs from place to place, depending on which records we have been able to process, and it shapes the counts above more than any real difference in wealth does [8].

Primary evidence for the estimatePeopleShare
Home value (public assessor or listing records)8945%
Other public signals (executive roles, company filings, gifts, pay)4121%
Patent inventors (with company context)3819%

Source: HeyAlbert database [8], people at $1M+. Categories under 25 not shown.

Home values support 89 estimates, other public signals 41 and patents 38 [8]. Patents are a large share of the mix for a county this size. Our home-value coverage for Somerset is limited, so the count is low.

What it means if you work with these families

Somerset is one of the most concentrated Indian-American counties in New Jersey, and growing. Our numbers should be read as a floor. For advisors and nonprofits, the Census map, not our count, is the better guide to where the families are.

Methodology

Census figures are American Community Survey 5-year estimates for 2020–2024 and 2015–2019, Table B02018, using “Asian Indian, alone or in any combination” [1][2]. Total population comes from Table B01003 [3]. The Census Bureau changed how it codes detailed race responses in 2020, so part of the change between the two periods may reflect coding rather than migration. All estimates carry margins of error. Shares and growth rates are our calculations.

HeyAlbert counts are aggregates from our database as of October 2026 [8]. They include people we identified as likely of Indian origin with an estimated net worth of $1M or more, based on public records such as property assessments, professional licenses, patents, SEC filings and donor rolls. Coverage is partial and depends on which public records exist and which we have processed. These counts are not population totals. Any cell under 25 is suppressed, and we publish aggregates only, never individual records.
